At the beginning of class the students turned in any signed syllabus slips. While they were turning these in I reminded the students about the vocabulary quiz on Thursday and that the students can earn bonus points for turning in flashcards. I also reminded them about the college entrance essay assignment I gave out on Friday and asked if there were any questions. Then we finished taking notes on the Anglo-Saxons (slides 9-14). Lastly the students split up into groups and were given different topics about Anglo-Saxon daily life. They worked on pulling out the important information from the articles they were given. They will transfer the information to a poster tomorrow. These will be presented on Wednesday.

When the students arrived in class they began working on today's bellringer. The students will have daily bellringers from now on. All bellringers for an entire unit will be collected on the day of the test. If a student is absent, it is his/her responsibility to make up the bellringers that he/she missed BEFORE the test date. Next I showed the students some updates I made to this website. Then I reviewed the Beowulf vocabulary 1 words in preparation for the quiz tomorrow. Lastly we began presenting our Anglo-Saxon daily life posters. The students were required to take notes on each presentation as I will be pulling some of the information to be put on their test at the end of the unit.

At the beginning of class the students completed a bellringer. Anyone who had a syllabus slip was able to turn it in. Then I collected bonus flashcards before the students took the Beowulf vocabulary 1 quiz. After they finished the quiz, the students copied down the new set of vocabulary words. The Beowulf Vocabulary Quiz 2 will be on August 27th. The quiz will cover all of the words from list 2 and some of the words from list one. Next we finished up any remaining Anglo-Saxon poster presentations. Then the class took notes on "The Seafarer" which is the first Anglo-Saxon poem we will study. In a few classes we began reading the poem, but not in all. We will continue to study it tomorrow.

At the beginning of class I collected any remaining syllabus slips that had not been turned in. The students came in and began the bellringer for the day. Next I reviewed and explained the 10 new terms on the Beowulf vocabulary list 2. Then we started/continued reading "The Seafarer" on pgs. 21-25 and I asked questions about the poem. Please see the "Seafarer" powerpoint from yesterday if you were absent to view these guiding questions. Lastly, the students were given time to work on their college entrance essays which are due Monday. I made myself available to answer questions about the essay at this time.
