At the beginning of class the students turned in their vocabulary "flashcards" from Friday. Then they worked on a bellringer. Afterwards I reviewed The Canterbury Tales vocabulary list 1 that they received on Friday. Next they took notes on Medieval life and Geoffrey Chaucer. We will finish these notes tomorrow. For the last 20 minutes of class we watched a video clip (last slide of the powerpoint) on the worst jobs in Medieval history.

At the beginning of class the students completed a bellringer. Then we completed our vocabulary association activity to help the students find ways to remember the terms and their definitions. Next we finished up the Middle Ages notes that we began yesterday. After that the students looked at the first 18 lines of The Canterbury Tales prologue on pg. 97. I played a recording of the lines being read in middle English. We then looked at the translation to see what a modern reading would look like. Lastly I explained the character chart (a 4 column chart labeled: Pilgrim, Physical Traits, Negative Qualities, and Positive Qualities) that we will be completing on EACH of the characters found in the prologue. We will begin reading tomorrow, so students will need to bring their textbooks.
