At the beginning of class the students turned in their scoring of the student sample essays. Then they did a prose timed write.

Today I returned the timed write from yesterday. We looked at breaking down the prompt and identifying different methods of characterization. Then the students practiced identifying evidence, discussing techniques, and writing the SO WHAT for each.

Today the students worked individually on an essay review in which they broke down and analyzed the timed write from Monday now that they had a chance to look more deeply at the prompt.

At the beginning of class the students took the TIOBE Act 3 quiz. Then they worked in partners to analyze sample student essays on the prompt they wrote about on Monday. Lastly I returned their poetry packets from last week and we discussed the student sample grades.
