Today our class was shorted to only 30 minutes due to a morning assembly. At the beginning of class the students took the Greek theatre quiz. Then we completed our discussion on the paragraph from "The Dead". Lastly I assigned an argument paragraph in which the students will tell me why/why not this is the most beautifully written paragraph in the English language. They will need to use specific examples from the paragraph.

Today we began looking at several passages from The Kite Runner. The students were given one of four possible passages from the beginning of the novel. They had 10 minutes to read and annotate their passages. Then students who had the same passage worked together in a small group to discuss and continue to analyze their passages. Lastly each group shared with the class what was happening in their passage, the most interesting point of discussion from their small group conversation, and how they could apply what they discussed to the novel as a whole.
